Technology for Engagement Grant!

The Engagement Game Lab is pleased to announce that Community PlanIt is one of five inaugural grant recipients from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation's Technology for Engagement Initiative. We join others—Jumo.com, Craigslist Foundation, CEOs for Cities, and Code for America—in working to bring innovative technologies into communities.

What all of these projects have in common is the goal of getting people to take action where they live. Whether it involves working with neighbors to address common concerns, or partnering with institutions to improve local—or global—life, these projects all use technology to forge better communities.

As you've read in our previous entry, Community PlanIt is a game platform that will be adaptable to all urban communities looking to engage people in planning for the future. Over the next nine months, we will collaborate with four Knight Foundation communities to make sure the game is flexible enough to work anywhere.

We are very excited to see games on the menu as technologies that inspire neighbors to come together to make better communities—and we hope to see more! This is an open initiative, so we would especially like to see other game projects receive this type of funding.

Check out the Knight Foundations's Technology for Engagement website to see a video with more information about the grant recipients (including us!) and to learn more about the types of projects the Initiative is looking for.
